About

What Pseudocount is: bioinformatics statistics tutorials in R and Python that test common analysis choices on simulated data with a known answer.

Pseudocount is a tutorial site about the statistics inside bioinformatics workflows: normalisation, count models, batch effects, replication in single-cell data, multiple testing and model checking.

How the posts work

Most tutorials show a pipeline running. The posts here ask a narrower question: what happens to the result when one choice changes? To answer it, a post simulates data where the truth is known, runs the analysis both ways, and reports the difference. Every figure and every number in the text is produced by the code on the page, so a reader can rerun it and check.

Corrections

When a post is corrected in a way that changes a result or a recommendation, it gets a dated note at the top saying what changed. Small wording fixes are not noted.
